Witnessing the power of information is our passion. To us and our clients, a business valuation is more than just numbers.
A nice surprise
It was a special day for our client when this husband and wife learned that the wholesale business they built from the ground up was worth more than $2 million. Our client initiated efforts to sell the business and retire years earlier than expected.
Determination of a fair value
A partner in a manufacturing company approached us to assist with selling his ownership interest. He was offered $100,000 from the other owner and wondered if that was a fair and reasonable price. Using valuation techniques, we assessed the value of his interest at around $500,000. He ultimately received over $400,000 in his sale.
An avenue to justice
The sole shareholder of a large water company sought financing from a bank. The bank created a complicated financing arrangement under which the company’s stock was transferred in exchange loan funds and an option to repurchase the stock. When the executive attempted to exercise the option, the bank denied him the funds needed to do so, and pulled promised financing from his restaurant chain venture. Having lost the company that had been with his family for generations, the executive sued the bank for breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duty, among other complaints. Our valuation of the water company and restaurant chain became the basis for a multi-million dollar settlement.
Information delivered
We performed a valuation of a service company and discussed the components of the valuation with company management. With an understanding of the factors that drive value, management implemented a new reporting and measurement program to assist with strategic planning. We performed another valuation two years later and were pleased to inform our client that the value of the business nearly doubled.
